A Night In The Life

22:00 - 23:00 - spent this hour talking on msn, listen to a mix of queen and the strokes,
feet up on desk at times, reading zoo,
thinking how bad it would be to have a glamour model as a daughter, and maybe even a girlfriend,
though it would have its upsides,
drinking a coke, and had something to eat,
oh and decided to do this

was supposed to bring in my PSP, with newly bought lego star wars and tomb raider, but didnt

or was thinking of bring in all 4 lethal weapons, see if i could get through them

but i've decided to give my peter cook book a read, at some point

23:00 - 0:00 - this hour there actually was worky things for me to do, yet it didnt really take up a great deal of time, we had a about 10 lorries, oh and a phone call, woo

had a look on flickr, whilst singing along to light of love

talked on msn a little bit more, and thats about it

i think chalky and baz are watching the golf, so i'm holding the fort

baz is will's dad, he's as funny as will, for a man of his age, well, a dad, he's very very up todate with todays music,

0:00 - 01:00 - still haven't started reading my book yet, this hour was spent listening to the strad drivers talk, as well as a bit of oasis,

changed my diary layout back to an old one, as you can see,

and not a great deal else, had to sort out a few fail to decks, which wasn't a great problem, was mainly waiting o the reefer guy's,

a bit of a breakdown of what that means, because people ask what do as a job,
and reading this you'd think, not a great deal,
well as i've said its a quiet night tonight, i've normally more to do

step one, lorry comes in, comes up on my screen,
there is a pool of straddle drivers avaliable, the computer looks at the straddles location, and whoever is closest, to the lorry, or to the place on the birth where the box is located, the computer will dispatch that job to that carrier, whehter its off or onto a lorry

step two, the job comes up on the strddle drivers screen, and on mine it comes up with which straddle has that specific job, the straddle goes to the lorry/location, picks up the box, the computer then tells them where to go etc,

usually the case is that there is a box or 2 or even 3, on the box for delievery, so the computer tells the driver where to put it, "shuffles away" then the next and next and next etc,

a "fail to deck" is the computer saying that it cant find a sutable place to put the container, so thats where i come in, i search the birth's data base, for containers similar, or a vaccant ground stow, taking which box is going on to which ship, and when that ship is coming in, into concideration,

the drivers sometimes call up on the radios asking where its going because they are not patient to wait for the computer to tell them, or in some cases they ask for a different stow,

reasons being they cant drop the box on that specific container because it is damaged, or they are a 3 high carrier, going over 3 high boxes, this means they are the height of 3 containers stacked up, they can go over them, but they cannot go over them if they are carring a box, as its the same height as the top box, we give these jobs out to "4 highs" self explanitory there,

we have empty stackers, these, stack empty boxes, funnily enough, sometimes at hotel height, if you ever go to a dock and see massive stacks of boxes, they are the MT stackers or reach stackers that do this, for storage purposes,

the boxes that come in and out of ourdock that need to be chilled or frozen, with like fruit or meat in, are in refridgerated containers, "reefers" we have guys who's specific jobs are to plug in and unplug these big arse boxes

another thing i deal with is Blue hats and engineers, blue hats are the blokes who do the manual jobs that need to be done on foot or in a van, like go looking for a container, or knock a lock out of a box, make the doors shut, talk with lorry drivers etc, we often ask them to go do thins and keep in touch with them over the radio, engineers the same, they ask for freezes to move around the birth, which is basically us stopping parts or all of the birth moving so that people dont get squashed, anyway, back to the job, Step 3 i think i'm on, lorry loaded, job done, next job

of all the songs i've been searching for chords for, to play on piano, how could i have forgotten shine on by jet, if i remember i'll play that, its pretty easy by the looks of things, just singing it may be a challange, i cant sing any jet songs, as of yet, we'll see
